CENTCOM’s statement in full: “On Oct. 6, U.S. forces destroyed an Iranian-affiliated dhow conducting surveillance and targeting U.S. Navy ships in the Gulf of Oman. Over the past seven months, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has continued to indiscriminately target thousands of civilian mariners.”
Core Tension
CENTCOM disclosed the strike eight days after it happened, and its account is brief. It does not say which U.S. unit or weapon was used, whether anyone was aboard, whether there were casualties, or what “Iranian-affiliated” means: an IRGC vessel, a proxy, or a civilian boat under contract. The finding that the dhow was “conducting surveillance and targeting” Navy ships is CENTCOM’s assessment. The second sentence, about the IRGC targeting “thousands of civilian mariners,” is a broader claim with no supporting figures in the post.
