Inique Hinton, 31, of Douglasville, Georgia, was arrested on October 23, 2026, at a Cobb County residence, several hours after a federal magistrate judge issued a criminal complaint charging him with attempted arson of a federal building and depredation of government property. According to the release, security cameras allegedly captured Hinton walking near the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building at 180 Ted Turner Drive in downtown Atlanta at about 8:12 p.m. on October 20, 2026. Minutes later, he allegedly ignited an item and threw it toward the building, striking the exterior fence and causing flames to spread. Investigators recovered burned cloth, lighter fluid, a glass bottle and a lighter at the scene.
Core Tension
U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg called the alleged attack “a despicable, terroristic crime that warrants an immediate and severe response.” FBI Atlanta Special Agent in Charge Marlo Graham said the FBI stands with its partners “while respecting everyone’s first amendment rights.” The only charging document so far is a criminal complaint, not an indictment, and the release reminds the public that the defendant “is presumed innocent of the charges.” The release does not state a motive, does not describe any damage beyond flames at the exterior fence, and does not list evidence beyond the security video and the items recovered at the scene.
