Jonathan MacDonald, 33, of Menands, New York, was sentenced on October 2, 2026, by U.S. District Judge Anne M. Nardacci to 9 years in prison, followed by 15 years of supervised release, for child pornography offenses. He must also pay a total of $27,000 in restitution to the nine identified victims. MacDonald was indicted in December 2025 on charges of sexually exploiting children, receiving child pornography, and possessing child pornography; in May 2026 he pleaded guilty to the receipt and possession counts.

Core Tension

According to the release, MacDonald also admitted that in February 2025 he exposed himself on a video call with two minor girls who appeared to be in Thailand, whom he had reached through the random video-chat app Omegle. He was not convicted of the exploitation count tied to that conduct; his plea covered receipt and possession. The release says he was caught after he dropped a flash drive containing child pornography in a bathroom at his workplace and investigators identified him as its owner. First Assistant U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III said MacDonald had previously been investigated for possible child pornography offenses, but the release gives no detail on that earlier inquiry or why it did not lead to charges.
