Package note: This Analysis covers the October 19, 2026, Presidential Message on National Forest Products Week. It is a ceremonial statement, not an order or proclamation. It changes no law or policy. It reports performance figures without citing any data source. We checked the two executive orders and the commission it mentions against their own texts. The figures stay unverified.

The message says that “last year” the President signed “two Executive Orders to increase domestic timber supply and reduce reliance on imports.” It credits them with “over half a billion dollars in new domestic industry investments,” annual industry earnings up “by over $5,600,” and Forest Service timber sales of “over three billion board feet… this year, the highest volume sold in almost three decades.” It also says the Forest Service reached “116 percent of our annual reforestation goal, the highest level in twenty-six years.”

Core Tension

Every number in the message comes without a source. It gives no baseline year, no report and no method. The “$5,600” earnings figure doesn’t even say what it measures: per worker, per firm, or industry-wide. “This year” could mean the calendar year or the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30. A reforestation figure of “116 percent” means little without the goal itself, and the message doesn’t give it. The executive orders do exist, but only one of them, EO 14225, directly orders more timber production. The other, EO 14223, opened a Section 232 investigation into lumber imports. The message also says regulations are being rolled back “on industries such as logging and paper manufacturing” without naming any of them.
