Missouri state Rep. Anthony Ealy Jr. (D-Grandview, House District 36) was arrested Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, by the Jefferson City Police Department and remains in Cole County Jail. Cole County Prosecutor Locke Thompson confirmed to ABC 17 News on Thursday, Nov. 5, that his office filed a Class C misdemeanor fourth-degree assault charge and a Class B misdemeanor disturbing-the-peace charge. Those filings are allegations; he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
As of Friday morning, Nov. 6, 2026 (America/Chicago), Kelvic Report could not independently retrieve a matching 2026 criminal case on Missouri Case.net (the courts.mo.gov portal returned a Cloudflare challenge to automated checks). ABC 17 likewise reported Thursday that no formal Case.net documents or court dates had appeared at its publish time. Thompson told ABC 17 that Ealy should face a judge Friday; as of this morning update, no primary court entry or news report of a Friday appearance outcome was located.

- Class C misdemeanor fourth-degree assault
- Class B misdemeanor disturbing the peace
- Held without bond in Cole County Jail
- Expected to face a judge Friday (Nov. 6), with Case.net formal documents/dates not yet visible when ABC 17 published
ABC 17 also summarized a Jefferson City Police Department news release and a probable-cause statement: officers responded about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday to the 600 block of East Capitol Avenue after reports of a disturbance involving threats; witnesses allegedly said Ealy was yelling outside a nearby business; the statement attributes alleged threats to kill the victim and a claim of having a gun; Ealy allegedly denied making threats or saying he had a gun. Kelvic Report has not independently obtained the probable-cause statement or JCPD release; those details are attributed to ABC 17.
Earlier reporting by the Kansas City Star, summarizing an arrest report and the inmate portal before the prosecutor confirmation, described the booking as misdemeanor fourth-degree domestic assault and peace disturbance and said Missouri court records showed no prosecutor filing as of Thursday morning.
Alleged offenses
Under Missouri law, domestic assault in the fourth degree (RSMo § 565.076) and peace disturbance (RSMo § 574.010) are misdemeanor offenses whose exact class depends on the charged subsection and prior history. ABC 17’s account of the prosecutor filing identifies the assault count as a Class C misdemeanor and the peace-disturbance count as a Class B misdemeanor. Exact Case.net charge codes and subsections were not independently retrieved for this update.
House Democrats
Marc Powers, chief of staff for the House Minority Leader’s Office, told ABC 17 that Democratic leadership removed Ealy from all committees in the spring so he could focus on personal issues, with no plans to restore committee assignments for the upcoming session. The Missouri House District 36 page lists no committee memberships.
Context
Ealy is the sitting Democrat for HD-36 (Grandview), elected in 2022 per the House page. Multiple outlets reported he won reelection Tuesday with 68% of the vote; official Secretary of State results were not independently retrieved for the original Nov. 5 Story. No public statement from Ealy was located for this update. A victim who spoke to ABC 17 on condition of anonymity urged him to step down; that is the speaker’s opinion, not a court finding.
